EA: The Power of PS4 and Xbox One Is ‘Fantastic’

'Software makers are just now starting to harness this power.'

It is undeniable that the consoles of this generation do not hold up as well to the tech of their day as consoles have in the past- usually, new console launches far exceeded anything that the arcade or PC market could produce in the past, at least for a few years. But the PS4 and Xbox One both launched as, at best, mid range PC equivalents even when they released in 2013- and they have only grown more and more outdated since.

But EA’s CFO Blake Jorgensen thinks otherwise- he thinks the power the consoles afford developers is fantastic, and more than enough.

“The power of the new consoles is fantastic. I think software makers are just now starting to truly harness the power. The first year, you had people testing and pushing, but now I think you’re starting to see, particularly this fall and winter, a lot really exciting pieces of software in the industry that are taking the processing power of the console,” Jorgensen said at the UBS Global Tech Conference.

I hope that, if this is the case, we see more kinds of gameplay experiences that we could not have seen on the previous generation of hardware- barring maybe a handful of games, everything else so far feels like it could just as easily been accomplished on previous generation hardware, with less shiny graphics.
