EA Predicts Total Sales of Xbox One and PS4 Will Be 52 Million By Year End

That's not as impossible as you may think.

PS4 Xbox one

This generation of consoles has seen some incredible sales- while Nintendo have faltered with the Wii U, the PS4 is one of the highest selling consoles of all time (second only to the Wii, actually), and the Xbox One is selling faster than any Xbox console before it. EA thinks this trend will continue- so much so that they are foreseeing over 50 million units sold worldwide cumulatively between the two consoles.

Speaking at the Credit Suisse Technology Media and Telecom Broker Conference, EA’s COO Peter Moore said that EA expects the sales of the two consoles to be at 52 million units sod by the end of 2015- which might not be as out of the realm of possibility as you think. The PS4 is already at 30 million units sold worldwide, and the Xbox One was at 10 million this time last year- even if its sales have slowed down since (which is unlikely), it is almost certainly over 15 million. Accounting for Black Friday and Holiday sales for both systems, 52 million becomes a real possibility.

Which is great, of course- a larger console install base means that more companies will be willing to invest resources into making games for them, as opposed to looking at other avenues, such as mobile gaming.
