Destiny Moving Towards “More Event-Based Model” Rather Than Large DLC Packs

This way all Taken King owners can enjoy this content according to Bungie's Derek Carroll.

Destiny

Bungie’s Destiny has recently received a fair amount of new stuff to do, primarily with the Sparrow Racing League, but players have been curious about the future of DLC packs. Unfortunately, it seems that live events will be Destiny’s current mode according to senior designer Derek Carroll.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Carroll stated that, “With Taken King we are moving to a more event-based model – things like Festival of the Lost and Sparrow racing, which is our winter event, and then smaller events such as Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris every weekend. Rather than doing these giant, monolithic DLC packs, this way everybody who’s an owner of Taken King can enjoy these things.”

As for why Bungie doesn’t want to do another Expansion Pass, Carroll said, “There’s lots of different reasons as to why – I don’t know how deep I can get into that. But basically the live team is charged with maintaining the game and keeping players happy, feeding them new content and surprising them with things they didn’t expect.”

Some sources have spoke to Kotaku though about how last year’s DLC cycle was unsustainable, though it could lead to a better game in the long run. However – and take this with a grain of salt – players may not see any significant new zones or raids until Fall 2016. What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments.
