Apparently, Hideo Kojima’s next game, whatever it is, will have mechs in some capacity- in an interview with IGN, Yoji Shinkawa, who used to be art director at Kojima Productions back when it was under Konami, explained that his role as Art Director at the new Kojima Productions will more or less be the same as it has always been, without too many changes.
Speaking to IGN, he was also able to give us an idea of what Kojima’s new game may be like.
“I’ll be in charge of creating the concept for the characters, concepts for the backgrounds, concepts for the mechs, their designs,” he said. “Once that’s done, I’ll also overlook the whole art process. In that regard, it won’t change that much. I hope I can do my best the way I’ve been doing so far.”
“One thing that’s different is I want to accept more challenges and do things as I wasn’t able to do before,” Shinkawa continued. “I want to expand, on a personal level, the things I can do. We’ve been working on a franchise that is beloved and has recognizable characters. One of my big goals is, visually, as well as whatever characters we create, go beyond that, are more recognizable, are more beloved. That’s definitely one of the goals I have when it comes to the art side.”
Kojima, of course, is no stranger to mechs- they are the eponymous subject of his Metal Gear games, and Zone of the Enders also featured them in a large capacity. So it’s really not surprising to know that Kojima will have them in his next game too.
Kojima’s next project is due out on the PS4, with a PC launch following later.
