Final Fantasy 15

Final Fantasy 15 looks like an intriguing game- almost ten years in the making, we will finally be playing it ourselves later this year when it is confirmed to be launching. Final Fantasy 15 is promising fans a return back to good days for a franchise that has seen better days- and while that promise is definitely predicated on taking the gameplay of the title as far away from Final Fantasy 13‘s linear and restrictive structure.

That said, the story also is one of the attractions with this game- it was one of the major reasons anybody was looking forward to this game back when it was still Versus 13, and even now, after so many changes, the narrative remains tantalizingly mysterious.

Speaking exclusively with The Examiner, Final Fantasy 15 Game Director Hajime Tabata discussed the story in the game.

“One of the important threads of the story in Final Fantasy 15 is that tale of how Noctis goes from being a young prince in waiting to becoming the kind of the country,” Tabata said, “That tale is a really big part of the game.”

The story is a deeply personal journey for hero Noctis, Tabata said, who is going to be “growing and developing as a person” which, in Tabata’s words also “puts [players] in a place to experience that emotional journey with him.”

“We are really trying to aim for something where the gameplay and storytelling are really one in the same,” Tabata said, pointing to The Last of Us as a source of inspiration for the development team.

Final Fantasy 15 is due out on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 later this year.
