DirectX 12 Improved Just Cause 3’s Performance On PC

This seems like good news for other games using DirectX 12.

While there were plenty of people who were quite happy when Just Cause 3 was released last year, it did have a few problems here and there. Avalanche Studios then worked pretty hard, it seems in order to fix these problems, launching a number of patches geared towards making the game run better. One thing people have noticed is that the PC version of the game hasn’t had nearly the issues the console versions did.

The reason the PC version has been so much more stable is thanks to the use of the DirectX 12. The use of DirectX 12 was confirmed via a case study that is going to be presented at GDC 2016. “Just Cause 3 is Avalanche studio’s latest addition to the mind (and lots of other stuff) blowing open world action-adventure series: Just Cause. Published by Square Enix, the game released on December 1, 2015 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. During the development of the game, Intel and Avalanche have been working closely together to optimize the game on Iris graphics, but also to make use of DX12’s features to improve the performance even further as well as bring additional visual quality to the game!”

Perhaps the most interesting tidbit here is the hope that the enhancements DirectX 12 brought to the PC version could also be brought to the Xbox One version. Just Cause 3 is now available on the Xbox One, the PS4 and the PC.
