Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 15 and Dragon Quest 11 are both expected to sell over a million copies each, just in Japan. The two latest entries in Square and Enix’s long running flagship RPG franchises are expected to be major successes in Japan, in spite of the slump that the dedicated gaming market is currently undergoing over there.

According to Nikkei Tredy, the games are going to defy the current trend of a declining console market in the island nation. It makes sense, too, since Final Fantasy and especially Dragon Quest has traditionally been  an event in Japan- notably, Dragon Quest’s launches became so disruptive to the productivity of the country that the government requested Enix to launch future games in the franchise over the weekends, back in the 1980s. With Dragon Quest 11 also being on the Nintendo 3DS (currently the highest selling system in Japan, as well as the best bet to achieve local success there), it is bound to cross a million easily. And Final Fantasy 15 should probably manage it too, on the sheer back of its brandname, as well as its decade long hype cycle.
