PS4 Will Not Disappoint in 2016, PS Vita Important For Targeting Younger Players, PlayStation Japan Head Says

Sony has grand plans for 2016.

The PS4’s the best selling system of this generation, and it’s also the most powerful one, but really, outside of maybe Bloodborne, it’s been a disappointment on the games front so far. There’s been no killer app to set the console apart, no exclusive that fans can point to and instantly associate with the PS4. That will change in 2016, says PlayStation’s Japanese head Atsushi Morita in an interview with Famitsu (translation provided by DualShockers), as the PS4 will have a relentless lineup this year.

It makes sense, too- the PS4 is set to get multiple great games this year, and a lot of them Japanese- games such as The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy 15, Dark Souls 3, NieR Automata, Star Ocean 5, Yakuza 6, Persona 5, and Gravity Rush 2. This isn’t counting the potential for multiple western PS4 games that will also probably take off in Japan- games like Uncharted 4 and Horizon: Zero Dawn.

So the PS4’s set- but what about the poor PS Vita, the completely neglected Sony handheld? Sony has famously stated that it has no plans to support the handheld with any further first party software, but Morita still insists that the handheld has a place in the PlayStation ecosystem, because of its ability to bring in younger players.

Yeah, that argument sounds a lot less convincing than the one for the PS4, Morita. It sounds a lot less convincing indeed.
