New Unravel Video Shows How Important Music Is To The Game

Music makes the world go 'round.

Unravel

When it comes to a game like Unravel, it can be hard to tell a really interesting story without using dialogue. Because the entire game centers around the travels of Yarny, all on his own, there isn’t any dialogue. If the game was nothing more than the little creature running through the woods and the background noise of that running the only thing to be heard, the game could become quite dull. That’s why Unravel leans on its music.

The music isn’t used just as a way to make the game more interesting, but also a way to help tell the story and draw the player in. The music in games that do it right, actually works as a stand in for dialogue. The music can help drive the emotion of the story and convey what the main character or characters are feeling in a way that the same actions carried out in silence would not. The developers of Unravel seem to understand this and they are demonstrating the power of the music in the game with a brand new video.

Unravel is a game its makers are quite excited about, despite the fact that EA recently lost the ability to actually patent the name. Despite that, Coldwood Studio has been working hard to make sure you know what the game has to offer. This is just the latest video to get released showing off the world of Yarny and how he is going to get along in Unravel. The game is due to hit the Xbox One and PC on February 9 and EA Access members will get a chance to play the first two levels five days earlier, on February 4.
