Todd Howard

Todd Howard is one of the most accomplished executives in the video game industry. Now he’s actually going to get recognition for those accomplishments. The executive, who is currently working with Bethesda will be receiving a lifetime achievement award at GDC 2016. The conference, which is one of a kind because it is hosted by game developers and centers on game developers will hand him the award when the event kicks off on March 16.

Howard has actually been at Bethesda for 22 years and he’s widely credited with being one of the people that really managed to pioneer the open world adventure genre. That pioneering spirit was recently shown off in Fallout 4, but that game isn’t even close to the only title he’s been a part of that has had massive success. Other games such as The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind were titles that changed the very foundation of the video game world.

While he will get less credit for it, because it was a free-to-play mobile game, Howard was the director of Fallout Shelter. That game was Bethesda’s first game on the mobile platform and after it launched, it quickly rose to the top of the mobile download charts. When Howard receives his award this March, he’ll be among a rather impressive group of video game execs such as Warren Spector, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Ken Kutaragi, Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk. GDC 2016 kicks off on March 16, 2016 in San Francisco.
