The Division On PS4/Xbox One Will Allow For Better FPS Performance, Will Have More Graphical Options

Lighting aspects can be changed.

The Division Old 1

Tom Clancy’s The Division performs quite well on the consoles, the PS4 and Xbox One. Running at 1080p (dynamic on the Xbox One) and maintaining an almost locked 30 fps, Ubisoft Massive’s open world MMO shooter is shaping up quite well. In the beta we learned that the console versions comes with a couple of graphics options that allows us to adjust the sharpening and toggle on/off chromatic aberration. But it seems there will be more options at launch.

In an interview with Youtube channel Team Epiphany, a Ubisoft developer confirmed that the final game will have more graphic options on the console versions that will help improve performance even more.

“It’s such a great [thing] that we have given the option that you can decide which certain lighting aspects to improve frame rates in the console versions. I don’t know if any other game that does that. So if you want to choose [better] frame rate over visuals, you can if you want.”

When asked whether these options were present in the beta, the developer stated that, “Not sure, if it’s in the beta actually.” And indeed, such options were not present in the beta. Given that the interview was recently conducted there is a good chance that these will be present in the retail version or possibly added later on via a patch.

Another thing to note is whether this means that the game can possibly run at 60fps on consoles. This is extremely unlikely as this will require quite a drastic downgrade on consoles to achieve that. Not to mention, that the game uses a heavy physics based engine, taxing the CPUs on consoles. So we can assume that these extra graphical options may help the game achieve a rock solid 30fps even during the game’s most taxing scenarios. We will only know for sure when the game launches.

The Division launches March 8th on the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
