Street Fighter V Players Who Get The Game Early Will Lose Their Data

Capcom is going to be looking into dealing with retailers that sell early too.

Street Fighter 5

While Street Fighter 5 is officially live today, it appears there have been a few people who managed to get their hands on the game early. A few users have managed to get stores to sell the game to them at least a day ahead of the actual street date, but they should be wary. While these players might think they’ve pulled one over on Capcom and the rest of the gaming community, it appears Capcom has been ready for this.

According to MCV, Capcom recently issued an official warning to those who thought they were going to be able to play the game early without any repercussions. The company has said that it will be refreshing its Street Fighter 5 servers right before it actually releases the game. This means that any game data that players rack up before the official release date is going to be deleted. Considering the sheer number of betas and alphas that Capcom ran on this game, it only makes sense to delete the game data.

At the same time, this seems like it’s actually a pretty good way to make sure people aren’t trying to get games ahead of time. So that deals with the players who are going to get the game early, Capcom is also looking at ways of dealing with retailers who are selling it before they are supposed to. “We’re looking into reports on this matter as we are concerned that consumers playing early will have their game data wiped and all progress deleted due to the server resets taking place prior to launch,” Capcom PR manager Laura Skelly told MCV.
