Remedy Wants Quatum Break To Be Revolutionary

The video game-television hybrid is different but gamers will have to decide whether it reaches revolutionary status.

Quantum Break

When Quantum Break launches in a couple of months, it could mark a rather large shift in the way video games are done. The game mixes live actions series along with its shooting gameplay mechanics, making it quite a unique product. By doing this, Remedy Entertainment is hoping players and viewers alike are more engrossed in the story line, as well as the characters. Despite the fact that the title is indeed a hybrid, and could be seen as revolutionary, Remedy’s Mikael Kasurinen recently sat down with GameSpot in order to talk about the thin line the development team toed.

“The key thing in Quantum Break is how we’re first and foremost thinking of it as a game. That’s an important thing to say out loud. It’s an experience made for people who love playing games. But we’re also taking elements of high-quality TV and weaving them into each other,” the director stated.

“The things that you do in the game have an impact on the TV show side. You actually play the villain, who is the main star of the show, and you make decisions that have an impact in the game. You’ll see small things that are slightly different because of what you did. These are built together and in total create an experience that is larger than the sum of the parts. They’re made to work together.”

When the game launches later this spring, we’ll get a feel of just how revolutionary it really is. Quantum Break is certainly taking some chances. If Remedy has done it right, there’s a chance it could be setting the stage for more like it in the future. Quantum Break launches for the Xbox One and as it was just recently announced,  Windows 10 on April 5, 2016.
