RIME Funding Cancelled by Sony for Lack of Game, Dev Troubles – Rumour

Apparently RIME isn't a game and trouble is brewing at Tequila Works.

Remember the news yesterday that developer Tequila Works has acquired the rights to RIME, it’s long in development, oft-delayed 3D platformer from Sony? Besides highlighting issues that may or may not have existed, it basically confirmed that Sony wasn’t interested in being involved any longer. But why is that?

According to one NeoGAF source lherre, who allegedly has a source close to the studio, RIME wasn’t really a game. ” I was told that the reveal trailer was all cinematic. It was faked to mimic gameplay, assets, etc. from a real game but 0% of the game was implemented. So the real challenge for the studio was to put that vision into the final game. And apparently this has been impossible to achieve. Sony required about one month ago the DEV KITs to be returned and canceled the fundings into Tequila Works.”

So essentially, if the source is to be believed, RIME was never really a game to begin with. According to the source, this was due to bad direction by creative director Raul Rubio who has been criticized for his lack of knowledge about technology and games development. It also noted that not many members from the original development team of Tequila were still left over, further providing troubles at the company’s top.

Furthermore, lherre hinted last year that the game was going through a rough development period and what is there does not inspire much confidence.

As it stands, it’s hard to see where the development of RIME goes, if it goes anywhere at all. Though this information should be taken with a grain of salt, it’s pretty damning if true.
