Hideo Kojima’s New Game Will Use A Third Party Engine

No more FOX Engine.

One of the reasons that the development of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain took as long as it did was because game director Hideo Kojima spent a lot of time building up a brand new engine, the FOX Engine, a powerful and flexible engine that he would be able to use for all of his games with Konami from then on, to facilitate easier and shorter development of ambitious games in the future.

That did not work out. Instead, Kojima and Konami had a widely publicized, acrimonious split shortly before the launch of The Phantom Pain, and Kojima was forced to leave the company, and his beloved FOX Engine with it.

It doesn’t sound like Kojima wants to go through any of that again, because during a Q&A session at Nordic Game in Malmö, Sweden, Hideo Kojima revealed that his new, upcoming PS4/PC game will be built on a third party engine. This will be one of the reasons that he hopes that he will be able to launch the new game as soon as possible.

Let’s hope we get to see it in action soon.
