This summer, the Xbox One will be receiving two updates, which will be equivalent to the Anniversary update for Windows 10. These updates will be substantial, and they will continue Microsoft’s attempt to try and unify Windows 10 and Xbox One together, to create a coherent ecosystem.
The update will add Cortana to Xbox One in the U.S., U.K., France, Italy, Germany and Spain, bringing the familiar and highly accomplished digital assistance to gaming consoles worldwide. Microsoft will also be revamping the New Game Collection on Xbox One to make it faster and more sensibly organized. Now you’ll be able to see more of your Game Collection, quickly access your own ‘Ready to Install’ tab, and get more information about titles in your queue.
The new update will also continue the integration of Xbox One with Windows 10- multiple high profile PC games such as XCOM 2 and League of Legends will get their hubs on Xbox One. If you’re a PC gamer, you’ll be able to see what PC games your friends are playing, share your own PC gaming clips and screenshots with the community, and message your friends on Xbox Live. And you will also be able to engage in cross platform party chat.
Finally, the Xbox Store will continue to integrate with the Windows Store on Windows 10 as well, and will also be organized better, making it easier for users to find content.
It’s heartening to see Microsoft’s continued commitment to the Xbox in spite of multiple fears that they will be slowly transitioning away from hardware- with multiple new Xbox hardware related announcements reportedly lined for E3 this year, Microsoft’s Xbox strategy has never been more interesting, from an academic point of view.
