Star Wars Battlefront 3 Will Be Released By Frontwire on Steam For Free

The cancelled third game in the original series, not the EA and DICE reboot, to be clear.

Before we had DICE and EA reboot the long beloved Star Wars Battlefront series with last year’s name of the same game, a third game in the franchise, Star Wars Battlefront 3, had been in development for a while, before it was finally cancelled. Recently, we got to see that cancelled game, prompting many to muse that the cancelled project looked better than what we did end up getting.

It’s the kind of rhetoric that’s usually unfalsifiable by nature- an inherently subjective statement about a product that doesn’t exist, meaning that there is no way whatsoever to refute it. However, it appears as though many may have a chance to test that hypothesis soon, because Russian developers at Frontwire Studios will be apparently completing and overhauling the game, remaking it and launching it on Steam- for absolutely no cost.

That price of free (which means that they will be making no profit from the project), coupled with the game being renamed Star Wars: Galaxy in Turmoil, are what should help the game keep away from any potential legal issues. It appears as though Frontwire may have a compelling case here, because it sounds like Valve are convinced of this new project- they have backed the new game.

“It is with great pleasure that as of today I am able to officially announce that Frontwire Studios has officially signed a distribution deal with Steam/Valve for the game Galaxy in Turmoil,” Frontwire boss Tony Fergie Romanelli said. “After ongoing discussion between Valve representatives and myself, Valve/Steam has agreed to ship Galaxy in Turmoil to its millions of users for FREE.”

It will be interesting to see how this new game is received- assuming litigation from Disney and/or EA doesn’t strike it down first, that is.
