The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Special Edition- PC Owners of Skyrim and DLC Get Upgraded To Remastered Game For Free

That is really cool of them.

When Bethesda announced that The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Special Edition, a gorgeous looking remaster of Bethesda’s most successful game of all time, would be releasing later this year for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and also PC, one question remained on the minds of many- the release of a remaster for PlayStation and Xbox makes sense, since neither of those platforms are completely backwards compatible.

But why bother with it on PC, where players still can and do play Skyrim on a daily basis, and where an active modding community has kept the game abreast of modern graphical trends and expectations? How would Bethesda handle this release on PC? Would PC players be expected to pay for a game they already own, and frankly don’t even need?

As it turns out, no. In an incredibly awesome move, if you already own The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on PC, and all its DLC (or the corresponding Legendary Edition), then you will get upgraded to the Special Edition for absolutely free when it launches in October. That means that most PC players won’t have to pay for any of the substantial upgrades in the new package- they get them for free.

Extremely great move on Bethesda’s part. Gotta hand it to them on this one.
