Battleborn Getting Microtransactions

Not as bad as Overwatch.

Looks like Gearbox’s new hero shooter Battleborn might be the newest game to embrace microtransactions. Starting tomorrow, June 16, players can use platinum to purchase premium skins and taunts.

Eventually, Gearbox is also considering expanding this to let you buy bank spaces, loadouts, or to boost your XP and credit earnings in ways that “do not affect actual gameplay,” although exactly how they will do that is unknown- it doesn’t sound like it would be possible.

The full list of microtransactions, and how they translate, is below:

  • $1.99 for 230 Platinum
  • $4.99 for 700 Platinum
  • $9.99 for 1625 Platinum
  • $19.99 for 3500 Platinum
  • $49.99 for 9300 Platinum

Finally, a taunt will set you back 230 platinum, while a skin will cost 430- all in all, it’s not bad, especially not considering just how egregious microtransactions in Overwatch are (and yes, for everything else that game does well, it does screw up with the microtransactions), but still: full priced games having microtransactions always bugs me.
