Looks like fears that Microsoft’s announcement of the upcoming Xbox One Scorpio may deter people from investing in the Xbox One S, due out later this year, were pretty unfounded. According to Xbox marketing exec Mike Nichols, pre-orders for the new console revision seem to be off to a pretty ‘amazing start.’

Microsoft declined to give any concrete numbers to back up their claims, though they did note that response to the new console has been uniformly enthusiastic across retailers and consumers, both.

One of those retailers seems to be GameStop, who are pretty happy with how the Xbox One S has been received, it seems.

“With all the new innovation we’ve seen and experienced with Microsoft’s new Xbox One S console, we anticipate this creating excitement among our customers,” GameStop’s SVP of Merchandising Bob Puzon said. “The new sleek design and the ability to watch Blu-Ray movies and stream video in 4K Ultra HD with HDR is sure to make the new Xbox One console one of our most sought after products when it launches later this year.”

Maybe the Xbox One S will see sales of Microsoft’s troubled console pick up- at the very least, it should allow for a larger install base for the Xbox One Scorpio to work from, when it launches next Holiday season.
