15 Things You Need To Know About PlayStation VR

While we felt that the packaging for PlayStation VR compatible and exclusive games was very clear, it seems that some people managed to find something to freak out about nonetheless. Specifically on the European game covers, it seems as though Sony’s label for ‘You’ll Need This,’ to ensure that customers understand that the game in question will need a PSVR to run, also includes pictures of PlayStation VR- causing widespread confusion, and some manner of fear that Sony may be going back on their initial word, and making some, if not all, PSVR games PlayStation Move exclusive, rather than having them also be compatible with DualShock 4, as they originally promised.

However, it seems as though that is not the case. In a statement released to Eurogamer, Sony reiterated that all PSVR games will run with the DualShock 4.

“All PlayStation VR titles will support DualShock 4 controllers. However some game experiences will be enhanced with the use of peripherals such as Move or the recently announced Aim controller,” Sony’s statement reads. “Images being shown of PSVR packaging on some websites are early mock ups and not representative of the finished packaging.”

I guess that’s that, then. Personally, I find the news a bit disappointing, as I feel that VR divorced of motion tracking tech is basically a gimmick, and rather pointless- and by not mandating Move controllers, and not having them included as the default controllers with each PSVR headset, I think Sony are missing the chance to offer a compelling VR experience here, one more compelling than it would be with DualShock 4 controls, and PS Move controls added as an afterthought, in any case.
