Xbox One S Teardown Reveals More Improvements: 802.11ac Wifi Standard and SATA III Drive

Why were none of these advertised?

Xbox One S

More and more, it is sounding like Microsoft really undersold the Xbox One S, and the sheer extent to which it is an improvement over the original mode. Yesterday, we learnt that the console is technically capable of 4K output even for games, and that it had a minor spec bump over the original model– which was something that Microsoft chose not to advertise.

And now, a recent teardown of the system by iFixit reveals that there are more improvements still under the hood. The new Xbox One S apparently uses a SATA III hard drive, which is a step up from the SATA II types that the original model used. It also apparently has an 802.11ac standard Wifi chip, making the Xbox One’s Wifi compatibility the most advanced on the market.

Why changes like these were not advertised is anybody’s guess- but hey, at least it sounds like the console is selling well regardless, in spite of Microsoft’s rather baffling approach taken to marketing.
