It appears as though the primary obstacle to cross platform online play this generation is not Microsoft and Xbox Live, but Sony. Following Microsoft’s announcement and open invitation to PSN (and other online networks) to allow for cross platform multiplayer, it appears as though the go ahead from Sony is all that many publishers and developers are waiting for.

We already know that Psyonix of Rocket League fame, and CD Projekt RED for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, both have the go ahead from Microsoft, with approval from Sony all that is needed. The newest addition to the list of developers waiting for the go ahead from Sony are Bandai Namco, who are preparing Tekken 7, the next entry in the legendary 3D fighting game saga, for a console release.

“Please ask Sony. MS already publicly said they’re interested in cross platform,” Michael Murray, designer on Tekken 7, said on TwitterTekken 7 is currently due out on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Stay tuned for more coverage and information.
