Nintendo Has Learned From The Wii U, Says Ubisoft CEO

The result may be a system more attractive to third parties.

The Wii U was a complete and total disaster for Nintendo- abysmal sales (especially on the back of the Wii’s record breaking commercial momentum), hundreds of millions of dollars lost for Nintendo in losses, and a mass exodus of third party developers and publishers unlike anything seen for a major system before- the Wii U left Nintendo in an unprecedented position of weakness as a console vendor, and it was all the result of a series of bad decisions Nintendo made going into the Wii U launch, and beyond.

However, those were all mistakes that Nintendo have learned from, according to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. In an interview with IGN (via Nintendo Life), Guillemot said that the NX may end up being a more attractive proposition for third party publishers than the Wii U was.

“What we see is that Nintendo has learned from the Wii U,” he said. “All publishers learn from what they do, and then come with something new and more attractive, which I think is the case here.”

This certainly sounds encouraging, and it sounds like Nintendo may have come up with a product that is more appealing than the Wii U was, at least for third parties. Now whether or not that product ends up resonating with customers remains to be seen.
