Sony Exec Believes PSVR Offerings Have Attractive Value Propositions

Now that the PlayStation VR is officially available for purchase, there have been more than a few people who have noticed that several of the games available for the device are being rated as “incomplete.” CEO for Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe, Jim Ryan recently sat down for an interview where he talked about this issue.

Ryan appeared on CNBC and was asked about whether he felt the PSVR had a large number of games that were very short, or just demos and therefore not complete games. Not surprisingly he took a bit of issue with that characterization saying, “Well, I think I’ll take issue with the use of the word incomplete. We think there’s a really great range of value propositions. As you say, there are full game experiences like Final Fantasy, Batman, Star Wars, but at the other end there are smaller, lighter game experiences priced accordingly, very affordable. For us, it’s really important to have that range of gaming propositions for PSVR.”

While it’s true that the games are priced differently depending on how long and how full an experience they are, the CEO was also a bit misleading in characterizing Batman, and Star Wars as truly full games. The first real, complete game coming to the PSVR will be Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Whether or not there will be backlash to how Sony is handling this issue has yet to be seen as the device is still so new.
