Microsoft Sees Fall In Gaming Revenue, Xbox Live Subscriptions

But things look to get better with the Xbox One S's newfound momentum.

Xbox One S

Microsoft had a great quarter with growth seen in each segment- except for gaming. Revenues for the Xbox division of the company apparently fell, as did Xbox Live active subscriptions.

Gaming revenue was down by 5% year on year; Xbox Live subscribers went up year on year by 21%, but at 47 million active users, they were actually down from the previous quarter, when they were at 49 million. The lower revenues for the Xbox division were attributed to the Xbox 360 being transitioned out, and to a lower pricing scheme.

Microsoft apparently expects the trend pertaining to revenues, at least, to continue– that said, they also have noted that Xbox One sales are up in North America and UK. If that trend continues, then who knows? Maybe a year from now, Microsoft will be reporting growth for their gaming division, too. That’ll be some good momentum for them going into the launch of the Xbox Scorpio.
