Skyrim Remaster And Fallout 4 PS4 Mod File Size Limit Is Unacceptable

Two of the best games on the PS4 don't even have 'full' mod support.

Skyrim Remastered Edition

As this generation has progressed, Sony are showing signs that they may be moving back away from their #4ThePlayers mantra, and back into a trap that characterized the later years of the PS2, and the early ones of the PS3.

There have been lots of smaller examples of Sony’s missteps, but the one that stands out for me the most is the tantrum that they threw over the mods in Fallout 4 and Skyrim‘s remaster on their console. They are actively blocking and obstructing content from their players, and they are actively hindering one of their most valuable development partners, and all for what?

Having fewer restrictions on mods does not seem to have compromised the integrity of the Xbox One as a system in any way, and in fact, has probably made gamers more receptive to Microsoft’s offerings, and Bethesda likelier to favor Microsoft (even more than usual) going forward. What did Sony gain from this?

In the meanwhile, PS4 owners are left with a stripped down mods experience- owing to all the restrictions that mods on PS4 have, not many people are willing to go to the effort of making their mods work with the system to begin with, and the few mods that are available are pretty tame. A recent reports claims there are six times more mods on Xbox One than on PS4– and all because of Sony’s restrictions. This stems due to the fact that the mod file sizes on PS4 is just restricted to 1GB compared to 5GB on Xbox One.

The restrictions on mods on PS4 are unacceptable, Sony- you need to fix this.
