Remember that rumor we reported on a couple of days ago, discussing a retailer listing for Zelda: Breath of the Wild that seemed to hint at a June 2017 release date? Remember how we insisted that this might be accurate, especially given how highly specific it seemed to be? Well, it looks like all of that was true.

Perennial Nintendo insider Laura Dale has revealed that Nintendo are currently internally targeting a release date of June 16 2017 for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild; not just that, but it also seems like only the Switch version will be released at first, with the Wii U version probably being held for a later release, possibly to drive Wii U owners to pick up a Switch and play Zelda on there. It won’t be much of a delay, however, as the Wii U release is apparently for June 23, so just a week later.

June 16 is certainly an interesting date- it’s the day that E3 2017 begins, and I can’t see why Nintendo would want to risk their game being drowned out in all the noise that that entails. Then again, this is just an internal target for now, and things could ver well change.
