It's a whole new world we live in.

It looks like the generation 2 Pokemon – Pokemon from Pokemon Gold/Silver, the hundred or so Pokemon that Johto introduced – will finally be making their way over to Pokemon GO, the extremely successful augmented reality mobile game starring Nintendo’s menagerie of critters, and far sooner than you expect. Like, this week soon.

As Eurogamer reports, leaked promotional material seems to indicate that the Johto Pokemon are being added to Pokemon GO as early as this Friday- and the update is coming in conjunction with Starbucks, who will see all of their stores become either gyms or coffee shops come Thursday. On the same day, there will be ‘more Pokemon’ added to the game.

Gen 2 Pokemon had already been found in the game’s code after one of the recent updates, so this doesn’t come as much of a surprise- in fact, it was only a matter of time. It will be interesting to see whether this update can revive the kind of insane hype that Pokemon GO had in its early days- while the game obviously remains successful, it doesn’t have that kind of hysteria surrounding it any more.
