Destiny Crucible Matchmaking Changed to Reduce Latency, De-Emphasize Skill Matching

For real this time.

You’ve probably heard all of this before but it’s happening again. Bungie has announced changes to Crucible matchmaking to ensure better connections and matches starting with the right number of players. The changes are currently live in all playlists for Destiny’s PvP.

In a new forum post, Bungie stated that, “We’ve made a change to the Matchmaking system in an effort to increase match quality. Our specific goal is to reduce the number of matches that begin before they fill up with players. To achieve this, we are expanding the available skill-range for other players earlier and more aggressively. We will also be looking for lower-latency matches for longer than before. Essentially, this puts a stronger bias on connection quality, with less emphasis on skill matching.

There will be some trade-offs though. Along with longer matchmaking times, it will also mean “you’ll be matched with opponents well outside of your skill range. We hope the tradeoff is worth it to improve the Crucible ecosystem in general.”

Have you tried out the new settings or are you playing any number of superior PvP experiences like Battlefield 1, Titanfall 2 and Overwatch? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
