Koei Tecmo’s vaunted Dynasty Warriors series is returning with the recent announcement of Dynasty Warriors 9. The publisher also announced that for the first time, the series would be going open world in the new sequel. Check out the teaser trailer in Japanese below, courtesy of Gematsu (and don’t worry about the “8” since Japanese releases for the series are one number behind the West).

Not much is known about Dynasty Warriors 9 at this point but according to producer Akihiro Suzuki (via Siliconera), it will serve as a “rebirth” for the franchise. All of China will serve as the in-game map and the 83 heroes from Dynasty Warriors 8 will be returning. You can look forward to new warriors though, including Zhou Cang from Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Dynasty Warriors 9 has no release date but we can assume it’s coming for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Stay tuned for more details on the game and let us know what you think in the comments.
