Microsoft have made it a point to establish that the Xbox One Scorpio will be extremely powerful. The most powerful console ever made, when it launches later this year; a ‘beast’, in fact. And with a 6TFLOPs GPU, it is not hard to see why they are making those claims.

Nonetheless, some of Microsoft’s stated ambitions with the system – such as being able to deliver native 4K gaming, or being able to deliver native VR gaming – have seemed a bit lofty, even with the Scorpio’s specs. But Jeremy Stieglitz of Studio Wildcard, known best for being the folks behind ARK: Survival Evolved, doesn’t think so- at the very least, he thinks that the Scorpio should be able to deliver native VR gaming, and even have it look good.

“It looks plenty powerful enough (for VR) to support it and have it look really good, it’s just a matter of getting our hands on the console and seeing what we can achieve with it,” Stieglitz said to Express in an interview. “For us we’re still very experimental with Virtual Reality in ARK, I do not think the VR support we have now is anywhere near the final implementation. It’s quite basic and is something us to gather feedback to help us work out what to do with it. It’s there for the Oculus Rift and we’re hoping to do something a little different with the Vive. And whatever Microsoft are doing with the Scorpio is a little further out but it’s definitely going to be on our radar when we get a development unit to start working with.”

Of course, this one isn’t as much of a stretch- for instance, even the PS4 Pro can deliver excellent VR experiences, and it is significantly weaker than the Scorpio will be. Regardless, it will be interesting to see what kinds of VR experiences Microsoft looks at pushing with the Scorpio.
