Valve Ordered To Pay $3 Million For Misleading Gamers

This case is in Australia.

The biggest PC game distributor in the world, Valve has long had a ton of success thanks to its online marketplace known as Steam. While the company usually has unprecedented success with Steam, every once in a while there is a bit of a setback. Such is the case when it comes to a recent court ruling by Australian authorities.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has ruled that Valve needs to pay out $3 million to Aussie gamers who felt as though they had been misled. For its part, it doesn’t appear the company is really claiming it didn’t mislead everyone. Instead the company tried to counter they weren’t really supposed to be governed by Australian law according to Finder.com.

In addition to the money the company has been ordered to pay out, Valve has been told it must, publish information on Australian consumer rights on their website for 12 months, implement a consumer compliance program for their system and staff, and not make any similar representations to Australian consumers for three years.
