Mass Effect Andromeda Side Quests Take Cues From The Witcher

Bioware doesn't want "quantity of scope" to result in quality downgrade.

One of the biggest criticisms against Dragon Age: Inquisition, despite its all-round excellent quality, was the side-missions and how they felt more akin to MMO-like fetch quests. When The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt arrived, Inquisition’s shortcomings were all the more apparent.

That’s why Bioware is apparently changing things up for Mass Effect: Andromeda. As per an employee who spoke to PC Gamer UK for its March issue (via Reddit), the studio is “approaching the completionist aspect very differently, because we’ve done and learned a lot from Inquisition”.

“But we’ve also observed what other games have been doing, like The Witcher. And it was very important for us that the quantity of scope doesn’t downgrade the quality of whatever you are doing there.”

Andromeda will also have more than a dozen hub areas such as the Nexus (which bears resemblance to the Citadel) and Kadara, a frontier settlement. Each planet will have different stories with “meaningful” side quests and Loyalty missions will offer up some narrative variety in the exploration and colonization department.

Mass Effect: Andromeda arrives on March 21st for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
