Xbox Head Phil Spencer Going To Japan To Meet Third Parties There

Hopefully this means more Japanese support for Xbox One.

The one thing that Xbox utterly lacks that Playstation and even Nintendo beat them at, is support from Japanese third parties. It wasn’t always this bad- the original Xbox and the Xbox 360 both had support from some high profile Japanese developers, and some great Japanese games as a result. But the Xbox One has none of that, with most Japanese multiplat games skipping Xbox One entirely, and the one major Japanese exclusive that was coming to the system, Scalebound, being canceled.

So what gives? Why are there so few Japanese games on Xbox One? What is Phil Spencer doing about it? Speaking to a fan on Twitter, Spencer reiterated the importance of Japanese games to Xbox as a platform, and stressed that he would be discussing the matter with Japanese third parties.

Will this mean that Xbox will get more Japanese games? Just yesterday, the developer of the upcoming Nier confirmed that the game is not planned for Xbox One at all, despite the possibility being discussed earlier. The situation is echoed with just about any Japanese game- Xbox is simply not a consideration for them. Hopefully Spencer can fix this problem.
