Destiny 2 Could Be 60FPS With Dedicated Servers, Says Veteran Network Programmer

And honestly, I have a feeling he is right.

Destiny 2 will be, sadly, running at 30FPS only on consoles- Bungie has blamed the weak CPUs in the PS4, PS4 Pro, and Xbox One as the reason for this, citing the bottlenecks they impose upon the game. However, according to a veteran network programmer, Bungie could easily have circumvented this problem had they simply invested in dedicated servers instead.

Glenn Fiedler is a man who has a lot of experience with network infrastructure with video games- he was Multiplayer Lead at Pandemic Studios, Lead Network Programmer at Sony Computer Entertainment and most recently Senior Programmer on Titanfall and Titanfall 2. As WFFCTech reports (and as mentioned by Digital Foundry during their Destiny 2 PlayStation 4 First-Look and Frame Test video), he mentioned in a now deleted tweet that Destiny 2 could have been running at 60fps had it had dedicated servers, rather than relying on peer to peer connections.

Fiedler, of course, would know what he is talking about- and besides still, there is no reason for a game as reliant on the quality of its network connection as Destiny to not have dedicated servers. Anything that takes Bungie and Activision to task for this glaring oversight is something I am on board with in the end.
