Tokyo 42 Developers: Xbox Scorpio Won’t Affect The PC Gaming Market Much, 4K/60fps Not Out of The Question

Could Scorpio create ripples in the PC gaming market?

Generally speaking, while the PC gaming market is always ahead technologically of gaming consoles, it does rely on consoles to make certain technology mainstream before that technology catches on on a wider basis within PC gaming as well. So of course, the impending release of the technologically super powerful Xbox Scorpio later this year raises the question of whether or not there will be any ripples felt in the PC gaming market as well.

According to Sean Wright and Maciek Strychalsk of SMAC Games, the developers of Tokyo 42, it’s unlikely that anything from Scorpio percolates down to the PC gaming market.

“In my opinion, not much from the console world will affect the PC games market, but I may be mildly biased,” Sean said. “I’ve always been a PC gamer so I sort of view the ability to scale my desktop up to the highest possible spec as a no brainer when coming to choose where to play my games.”

We also asked them if there is a possibility that Tokyo 42 hits native 4K with a framerate of 60fps on the Scorpio, if they decide to include enhancements for it when the console launches later this year.

“I’d say that anything is possible, but currently Tokyo 42 is CPU-bound, so any extra RAM wouldn’t necessarily enable us to increase the frame rate to 60fps. That said, it’s untested so let’s see,” Sean said.

The Xbox One Scorpio is, of course, due out later this year, with a full reveal at E3 next week. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for our complete interview on Tokyo 42.
