The Nintendo Switch OS was pretty barebones when it launched, a situation remedied in some part by a recent update. However, there is at least one major glaring feature that remains missing on the hybrid system- there is no save file management of any sort on the Switch. You can’t back up your saves, not to the cloud, not to your PC or Mac, not even to your microSD card. If your Switch were to die, your saves would die with it.
This problem may be getting addressed soon- a Nintendo Switch SDK update has been leaked, and it seems to confirm that save file transfer will be coming to the system soon. “In the future, we plan to provide a feature to transfer account save data among multiple consoles. As a result, there is the possibility that user accounts with uninitialized account save data will be added. Note that your design must work without issue, even in this case,” the SDK seems to read (via NeoGAF).
If this is true, then this will be a feature that will be much appreciated- and a feature that the Switch should never have launched without to begin with. Still, better late than never, I guess.
