The Switch Isn’t Powerful Enough To Do Justice To Our Game – A Plague Tale: Innocence Dev

"We already know that there's too many rats, too many animations, too many AI at the same time."

A Plague Tale: Innocence is not coming to the Nintendo Switch, which is a bit surprising, given that smaller scale games have managed to find a very receptive market on Nintendo’s hybrid console since its launch four months ago.

Why is this? When GamingBolt had the chance to talk to Asobo Studio’s Chief Creative Officer David Dedeine, we decided to ask him why the Switch will not be getting the game. His response? The system is not powerful enough to do justice to the developers’ vision for the game.

“No. I will not lie by just saying…power,” he said. “It’s really the power of the device. In this case it was the amount of rats we need to display. We already know that there’s too many rats, too many animations, too many AI at the same time. And if we want to give justice to – it’s like there is a large bridge between [it and ] Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro. And the Switch, it was too hard to make the same game in such a different context.”

When asked whether they have made any attempts to actually run the game on the Switch, Dedeine stated that, “We’ve done the math, and had all sorts of discussions with Focus Home Interactive (the publisher). So maybe will try, but right now the discussion we’ve had with the publisher was to not make Switch a priority.”

It makes sense- and it’s a shame, because this is the kind of game that would be right at home on Switch. But if the technology doesn’t allow it, it doesn’t allow it. If you want to play the game, you can always look into it on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
