Studio Wildcard’s ARK: Survival Evolved will be launching on August 8th after spending many years in Early Access. However, to ensure “retail parity”, the developer will be increasing the price from $30 to $60. Considering many people don’t find it to be in a retail-worthy state, this decision obviously has them angry.
DayZ creator Dean Hall is one such person and took to Twitter to voice his annoyance. “Just so we’re clear on my opinion: the price increase for Ark is ****ing OUTRAGEOUS.”
Hall followed up by stating that, “Ark: The game is nowhere near ready for that kind of price. It’s greed – pure and simple. It represents a huge disconnect with the community.”
And he’s not saying this out of random anger. Hall notes that he’s “a huge fan of the game, but this is just too far and sets a terrible precedent. If you want to charge an AAA price, have an AAA state.”
It’s hard to argue with this logic. Though many users have noted how Hall did the same thing with DayZ and then left Bohemia Interactive, that game is still in Early Access and hasn’t had a price increase. It’s also not launching in a month in a what’s still a buggy state.
