Xbox One X Could Face Problems In The Marketplace Due To Lack Of Compelling Content, Says MIDiA Research Group

Games sell hardware, after all.

The Xbox One X is the most powerful, most technologically advanced, most sophisticated console ever made. This is undeniable, and trying to deny or even downplay this is ridiculous. That said, however, hardware alone is meaningless, and people don’t spend hundreds of dollars on consoles to hang their spec sheets on their fridges.

No, instead, it is the games that sell consoles- and given the paucity of quality and compelling exclusives on the Xbox at the moment, the question of why someone would spend $500 on it is extremely pertinent. This is something that the MIDiA Research Group believes too- they, too, think that the system could face problems in the marketplace due to its ‘content problems.’

“I agree that this could be an issue,” MIDiA’s Karol Severin, Lead Analyst, said in an interview with WCCFTech. “Much like with VR, content is King. Consoles don’t sell themselves because of tech specs – consoles sell because of the games catalogues they enable consumers to enjoy. If that doesn’t match consumer expectations, the product won’t be successful.”

I agree- and as I keep remarking, the Switch’s success is the ultimate vindication of the idea that software is king. Here is a system that is weaker than even the Xbox One, and with terrible services, which is selling on the back of solely its exclusives lineup, and breaking records- that kind of a killer game is what Microsoft needs for the Xbox going forward, or they will be faced with the same problem that has held Xbox back from selling well all generation.
