Xbox One ‘Lack of New Shipped Titles’ Leads To Decline In Revenues For Blu Ray Disc Manufacturers

"There have been very few introductions of games in the first half – new games in the first half of the year for the Xbox.”

The Xbox One’s general paucity in new releases in the first half of this year has been a well established meme– but like all oft repeated adages, there is a grain of truth hidden within it. There has been a shortage of new Xbox One releases compared to the competition, and Technicolor, the world’s largest manufacturer of Blu Ray discs, has felt the repercussions of that.

Technicolor’s CEO, Frederic Rose, said during the company’s most recent financial earnings call that the lack of new Xbox One games was to blame for the decreased revenue the company experienced last quarter. That said, he did emphasize that sales might see a spike with the release of the upcoming Xbox One X, which might lead to re-energized engagement with the Xbox ecosystem.

“However also in the first half of the year, we were impacted by the limited number of games titles that were shipped,” Rose said. “And you will remember that in games, we ship Blu-ray discs for the Xbox and there have been very few introductions of games in the first half – new games in the first half of the year for the Xbox.”

Hopefully, that turns out well- while there is still a general shortage of exclusives on the horizon for the Xbox, it is also undeniable that between Forza, Super Lucky’s Tale, and Crackdown, there is more coming up than what we have received so far.
