Mass Effect Andromeda: BioWare Still Mum on Single Player DLC, Xbox One X Support Not Confirmed

The future of Mass Effect remains uncertain.

Mass Effect: Andromeda turned out to be a disappointment for Mass Effect fans. It’s critical and commercial performances were less than stellar, especially compared to what EA were expecting. Since its launch, it has come to light that the lukewarm reception for the game has caused EA to put the franchise “on ice”, while also shutting down development studio BioWare Montreal.

With this, the future of Mass Effect is very much up in the air- and not just with a sequel, but also when it comes to future single player DLC for Andromeda itself. Fernando Melo of BioWare Edmonton, who worked as a producer on Mass Effect: Andromeda, recently took to Twitter to answer a bunch of questions regarding the game’s future. When asked about single player DLC, Melo said that BioWare and EA have nothing to talk about right now, and would share info once there was info to be shared.

In other tweets, Melo said that even when it comes to multiplayer support and multiplayer streams, BioWare were not really at liberty to discuss the future. He did, however, mention that BioWare have recently added new content to Andromeda’s multiplayer component. Additionally, when asked about Xbox One X support for the game, Melo said that he was unsure about the same, but that it “would be cool”.

I, for one, definitely hope this isn’t the end of Mass Effect, or even of Andromeda. The game had plenty of issues, but it was still a pretty good game, and in terms of its narratives, it left plenty of questions unanswered that will hopefully be answered with additional content in the future. Seems unlikely, but one can always hope.
