Xbox One New Update Bringing ‘Fluent Design’, Introducing Fully Customizable Dashboard

This is what they should have led with in the first place...

Look, the Xbox One UI is a disaster. It was terrible at launch, it’s barely better now after Microsoft has been steadily working on it over the last few years. The fact of the matter is that having a Windows inspired UI simply does not work for a console and controller paradigm. Something tailored to the controller, like the PS4 or Switch UIs, will always be superior.

Microsoft seems to have gotten the message- their new update, available to insiders already, introduces a design language called ‘Fluent Design’, and the focus of this paradigm is to emphasize speediness and customizability to the Xbox One dashboard experience.

“We’ve heard feedback from our fans that they want the ability to customize Home the way they want. This new experience on Xbox One gives gamers more choice and delivers fun faster”, Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra said, explaining the mindset behind the new update.

The dashboard has now taken cues from PS4 and Nintendo Switch, apparently, and lets you fully customize the layout of the home screen, keeping content you want front and center, and getting rid of swathes of tiles you don’t care for.

You can check out the video for this new update for yourself below. Presumably, this update will be out in time for the Xbox One X’s release later this year.
