PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (Briefly) Becomes Most Concurrently Played Steam Game

In a milestone that pretty much no one thought would ever occur, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds became the most concurrently played Steam game of the day over the weekend, dethroning Valve’s popular free to play MOBA Dota 2 in the process. And that’s keeping in mind that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is in paid early access.

As per the developer’s official Twitter on August 27th, it managed to hit 877,844 peak and concurrent players, surpassing Dota 2 which had 838,519 peak players and 842,919 concurrent players.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been in Steam Early Access since March 2017 and the achievement is even more amazing when you consider that not even big-name triple-A titles had been able to beat Dota 2 since it released. Of course, a quick glance at the Steam charts will show that Dota 2 is back on top with PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds in second place.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has some big updates on the way. Along with a new map, it will be releasing on Xbox One and Xbox One X via Game Preview later this year. A full release is planned for 2018.
