ARK Survival Evolved on Xbox One X Will Remove Host Barrier Thanks To Extra Memory

Other consoles simply lack the memory to load an entire world while playing the game, says Studio Wildcard.

Studio Wildcard’s ARK: Survival Evolved is finally releasing this week and despite the controversies, from the sale of paid DLC while in Early Access to the bump in price for retail, it’s been a long journey. Along with releasing on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, ARK: Survival Evolved will also be making its way to Xbox One X and PS4 Pro.

GameSpot recently fielded questions from fans regarding the overall state of the game prior to launch and passed them to Jesse Rapczak, who is Studio Wildcard co-founder, co-creative director, art, and technical art director for the title. GameSpot user LLamesOnTheRun actually had an interesting query when he asked if private games would be improved to allow for further player distances instead of having to stick close by to the host.

Rapczak replied that for consoles, “This is a problem of memory. Xbox One, PS4 and PS4 Pro just don’t have enough memory to keep the entire world loaded while also playing the game. Fortunately, the Xbox One X has massive amounts of extra memory, so we plan to remove the host barrier when the host is using an Xbox One X!”

Of course, this further incentivizes buying an Xbox One X but optimization is still an on-going task. In a prior question, Rapczak noted that further optimization would be coming to the PC version based the console work that’s already been done. ARK: Survival Evolved will be out on August 29th.
