The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and PlayStation VR Win Top Honors at CEDEC

Both well deserved awards, I'll add.

The CEDEC is the Japanese equivalent of the Game Developer’s Conference, and every year, awards are handed out for excellence in software and hardware design to recognize excellence in the Japanese gaming industry. And this year, the top honors were taken by Sony’s PlayStation VR headset, as well as Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The PlayStation VR won the Engineering Award, for bringing low cost, high quality VR to the masses. On the software front, Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild won the Visual Excellence Award as well as the Game Design Award- the former for its beautiful artstyle which brings its incredible game world to life, and the latter for, well, the unprecedented levels of interactivity and freedom in its game world, as well as just how strong the overall design is.

Personally, I think these are excellent choices- and I think they are indicative of the fact that the long slumbering Japanese industry is returning to reclaim its dominance in the software and hardware fields again.
