Destiny 2 Microtransactions Confirmed

Microtransactions in a full priced game with a Season Pass to boot...

Though the game managed to cultivate a persistent fanbase of millions of people worldwide, I can hardly think of anyone who would truly say that Destiny was ‘pro-consumer’; not only did it have multiple expensive expansions (expansions that it also gated previously free content behind to encourage an update), it also threw in microtransactions for good measure.

Those microtransactions will be returning in Destiny 2. Silver, the premium currency for Destiny, has been confirmed to be returning in the new game in a GameStop flyer; given that Destiny 2 is a full priced title, and additionally also has a Season Pass, I see no reason for the game to have microtransactions, but such is the state of the modern AAA gaming industry.

Regardless of how I feel about them, there is little doubt that a lot of players will welcome these, because microtransactions do save time. In this case, $10 will get you 1100 Silver, and $20 will get you 2400 Silver- so, again, it’s a quick way to get your hands on things. Destiny 2 will be launching on PS4 and Xbox One, with a PC release following next month.
