Skyrim: New Details On Caves, Dragons and Slaying Cities

Posted By | On 18th, May. 2011

We have new information on Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim from director Todd Howard. Check them out below.

  • 120 caves to explore and 100 points of interest outside of them
  • The game is actually too big.
  • Boats are in the game, but you can’t sail them
  • Unlimited number of dragons within the world, including specific encounters
  • Whole team dedicated to world interactions (ex: wolf packs hunting mammoths, fish in rivers)
  • Dragons as mounts has been considered possibly for a late time, but not in the game currently
  • Players can slay a whole city of people, however it may take a long time
  • Damaging limbs and crippling enemies will be in the game, not like Fallout 3 though

“At last count we had about 120 real caves, and more than 100 common points of interest outside, The game is actually too big”, Howard told Norwegian website Gamer.no. “In Oblivion we let the visual designers take care of the caves, and we also had a couple of dedicated level designers who went over them afterwards. There was nothing wrong with them, but they could have been better, We still stock them in kit form – it’s something we’ve done since Terminator: Future Shock. The difference is that we’re better at it.”

So over 120 caves, that’s a real step up from Oblivion and personally for me, it’s a treat since I am a huge fan of missions which takes place inside caves and dungeons. Also I wonder what purpose boats will serve in the game when you can’t sail them? Probably they are there just for quick travel.

Elder Scrolls: V Skyrim releases this fall on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Damn, I need to get ready to slay the entire city!
