Nintendo Switch Is A Perfect Match For Us, Says Telltale

"Plain and simple, the Nintendo Switch is a perfect match for Telltale."

The Nintendo Switch has seen a surprising amount of acceptance among third parties- surprising not because it doesn’t deserve it (it is an exceptionally well made and designed machine, and it deserves all its success on all quarters), but surprising because after the Wii U, it was hard to imagine third parties bothering with Nintendo hardware.

But the Switch has reversed that damage to a very large degree, and third parties, especially western third parties, are taking to it exceptionally well. One of those third parties is Telltale- whose creative communications head Job Stauffer recently enthused about Nintendo’s hybrid console to MCV.

“No series is out of the question for us to bring to Switch,” he said. “We’ll be examining everything and hopefully making a lot of fans happy. Plain and simple, the Nintendo Switch is a perfect match for Telltale. [Development has been] seamless and perfectly suited to everything that we do.”

That said, he did mention that The Walking Dead – which is one of Telltale’s flagship properties, and is also missing from the Switch – isn’t currently in active development for Nintendo’s console. “I don’t think we’re in as much of a rush right now, because looking into earlier seasons might require some additional effort to bring our content up to speed and up to Nintendo’s standards,” Stauffer explained.

He went on to add that this has nothing to do with a “family friendly” perception for the Switch. “To say we’re steering away from other content because the audience isn’t there isn’t true.”

Which makes sense- after all, even the Wii U got The Walking Dead. Telltale is presumably far more interested in bringing its current content to the platform. So far, the Switch has seen Batman, Minecraft: Story Mode, and Guardians of the Galaxy– it will be interesting to see what Telltale brings next to the system.
